The Refined Players: Building a Bridge for Black Music

Billboard & 1800 Tequila have partnered up with world renowned trumpeter and trailblazer for pushing the future of Jazz music forward, Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah, to form a new band called The Refined Players - filled with fresh talent from all over the United States. The ensemble is comprised of the aforementioned Christian Scott, Roc Nation/Save Money rising star Vic Mensa, drummer Joe Dyson, djembe player Weedie Braimah, bassist Derek Hodge, pianist Joe Harley, and flutist Elena Pinderhughes.

The Refined Players have released their first track (hopefully of many) "Freedom is A Word," and it's a very welcome selection here at Fresh & Local ATL. Each musician is found in their respective elements on the song with Vic Mensa taking the lead with lyrics that evaluate his place in the world while taking keen notice to the injustices and lack of unity in America at this current time. He ends each verse with the phrase "the world's gone mad" which is one that we all can relate to, given the current state of affairs we live in. Stream the track below.
